Klingenstein Experience

Defining instructional and administrative leadership
You'll think. You'll question. You'll debate. You'll discover the path to true excellence in education without losing sight of the hard work and talent necessary for making it a reality.
For more than thirty years, the Klingenstein Center has served as the premier university based program for graduate studies in independent school leadership. From the start, our carefully designed programs have integrated the rich resources and educational research of Teachers College and Columbia University while making the most of the dynamic academic, cultural and economic opportunities that abound in New York City. All programs focus on instructional leadership, collaboration and teamwork, a commitment to social justice & diversity, and reflective practice.
The Center’s programs specifically address the challenges and opportunities inherent in independent school leadership while providing a broad perspective on high quality education in all its forms. Discussions, readings, projects, internships, visits and distinguished guest lecturers offer insight into ways of thinking that enhance leadership for independent schools today and in the future.
Participants leave Klingenstein programs with a deep understanding of both philosophy and practice in education, the ability to institute change in their school communities and the knowledge and skills to advance their careers. Their efforts have gone a long way to professionalize the field and improve independent school education by setting the highest standards and expectations for those who teach and lead.
